John Currin
I've recently discovered the artworks of John Currin on the internet, and I have to say that looking at his paintings gives me an enjoyment that I rarely find with contemporary art. It's so refreshing to see an artist who can actually paint, to present classical aesthetic traditions with a modern flavour.
I'll leave the judgements and controvercies about his paintings to art critics, and let's just take a look at some of them that I've found on the internet:

Do you find Currin's exaggeration of certain details unsettling, or do you just ignore them and see what you want to see?

Those two are not the only options are they? Things usually are not just black and white, so it's more than likely that a wider spectrum of reactions can take place.
As to how I feel towards these particular paintings(roughly speaking, his works from the late 1990s), I enjoyed them with no discomfort.
As to his more in-you-face paintings, I don't like them that much, but I mostly just observe and really have not much opinions to add to the arguments out there.
Obviously some of his paintings are intentionally trying to be rebellious against certain criticism & social taboos. Manet's done it in the past, so did Courbet, the public reactions really is a series of interesting phenomanons to observe, when you're not caught up in them yourself.
